ok, the chubbie

The escape pod, I mean the Chubbie, came about while battling another insomnia-ridden night, where the only cure would be found in drawing up nerdy templates for sub-six hulls.

The next day I got to work.

Big Gay Al checking out the 5'1" chubbie.

Boris Poland getting stoked on the next project, a 4'8" single fin kneelo...

Sorry Rob...didn't do my research too well for the Escape Pod apellido.

I like the way belly in the front blends with back section bottom contours!

It has a tri-plane botton, spiral vee?

What should be the compromise between shredability and neutral handling?

By the way....

I'm not sure if i understand the use of this term. Lately people associate "neutral handling" to the hull performance. This term is very used in Automotive, when a vehicle with neither oversteering nor understeering.

In surf might be the point "Zero" between control and slipperiness.
Am I right?

I like the way hulls find speed on a wave without having to pump and generate your own speed. I made this one with a bit of concave in order to give a little bit more predictability without sacrificing too much of the hull sensation.

Purists might say that either you stay with a hull design or just shape something else. I'm just trying make something that's a little more forgiving for surfing Ocean Beach.

seems the skinnier the jeans get the smaller the boards get too. why so few boards for bigger surfers ever featured? or are Mandalistas just into a "mine is smaller than yours" trip?

nice new stash @ Thalia St these days....

Don't worry. We've got some longer shapes in the works. 7'7" to 8'8" pintails coming soon. (And I don't wear tight pants either.)

the guy holding the Chub sure has skinny jeans though!

I guess i was commenting on the general tendency for almost every board shown to be in the 6' and under category. at 6'3' and 200lbs I tend towards the 6'4" to 6'6' lenght for my boards, just seems to get into waves that little bit easier, which is crucial when dealing with the pack at San Mateo Point.

Tight pants and fixed gear bikes... I've never seen that style in SF before! ;)
