Thanks for posting this obit.
Woody was a Beauty - huge heart, he welcomed and loved everyone he came in contact with. He invented the modern catamaran, surfed huge waves here in Hawaii with the old-time greats, and was in that famous photo (with george downing and buzzy trent at makaha) that appeared on the front pages of countless newspapers across america. That one photo launched hundreds of cali surfers to oahu in the fifties in search of similar mountains. Woody was with dickie cross the day dickie died at waimea in huge close-out surf. They had paddled miles from sunsetpt. looking for a way in to shore. and this was in the nineteen-forties!
Woody had a huge infectious laugh and bright/intelligent/mischievious
eyes that always said let's go!
We'll all miss him.
