All the swell we've had lately has been stirring up the bottom and sending millions of shells onto the beaches around here.  Pre-Columbian indigenous populations in California like the Chumash made bead money out of Olivella shells like the one pictured above. Necklaces made of these shell beads can be found all over North America, having been traded through the hundreds of tribal cultures that existed here before the discovery of the New World.  Check out this link to learn MORE.
