7'7" suave loco

7'7" tri-plane hull
15" x 21" x 13" x 3"

This board was a lot of fun to shape. I really love how the thickness flow and the S-deck hint at something organic in origin. Shaping these hulls has given me a new perspective on the process of shaping, as you can't shape them the same way one would shape a board with linear thickness foil. Big thanks to Marc Andreini for continuing to inspire me with your guidance and aloha.

Andreini Koa Slider

Somehow, Marc Andreini got the very last piece of harvested koa from the Big Island. It's now on the endangered list, so it's virtually impossible to get a big enough piece of koa to make olos. Here's Marc getting his old B&D saw smokin' on some really HB wood.

Hullin' with the New Kids

Sophia Grace likes yogurt, long squats on the beach, and new boards like this 5'11" Andreini Vaquero with Resin-X and a nice tint ala Moonlight.

Marc Andreini Loves to Shape

I was lucky enough to be invited down to Marc's secret shaping lair to be educated on the finer points of hull design. I got to listen to some great stories of how he and Kirk Putnam shaped and rode stubbies throughout the 60's and in the decades that followed---true research and design in the clean point surf of Santa Barbara. I hope I can honor his generosity by shaping a few boards and continuing this special kind of design tradition.

Here's a few photos of Marc shaping my new 5'11" Vaquero...

Stubby Love

A few months ago I got a custom 5'9" stub from Marc Andreini and I haven't really surfed anything else since. The board goes like magic and I'm able to do most everything I'm capable of doing on a wave on this board.

I talked with Marc Andreini about the design and he gave me a few tips on how to integrate the single/double/concave vee through the rocker specific to this design. He also gave me the nod to shape them and continue to bring stoke into the world. I've shaped four of them already and I'm making another four more for Mollusk in SF and NYC. Andreini was pretty stoked that I was into the design, which he says, "It's something we used to ride when the waves got good." I can only imagine what those guys were up to in the 60's and 70's in Santa Barbara on these boards at the points.

Here's some photos of a 5'11" stub I shaped, plus some photos of the 5'9" Andreini.
